Engineering Excellence

The London Eye is a dramatic landmark on the skyline of London and is famous the world over. Those who take a trip on it find it an inspiring and sometimes overwhelming experience.

Since its opening it has received over 30 million visitors and has generated fame and fortune for the city of London.

Just imagine if every city and town in the UK had an attraction like this, and imagine if you had a hand in designing it! This challenge is all about designing some form of new Tourist Attraction for a UK town or city of your choice! Money is always important in business, so make sure you get the right balance between costs to manufacture and advertise and the money that will be coming in.
The sky is the limit, so be creative!

Promo Puzzle

Drayton Manor Theme Park is one of the UK’s leading Theme Parks attracting over a million visitors per year. Drayton Manor opened to the public on 16 October 1949 as an 'inland pleasure resort' and has since grown substantially in size. In 2006, the park received two awards: 'Best UK Attraction' awarded by Group Leisure and 'UK Attraction of the Year' awarded by Coach Tourism.

This year Drayton Manor is celebrating its 60th anniversery and they want your help!
A 60th anniversery for any business is a big deal, and Drayton Manor want to shout about it. They would like you to come up with advertising material and designs for promotional items to help celebrate their 60th year.
Advertisments, posters, leaflets, gifts, toys, t shirts etc. are all possibilities so give it a go!
Remember you are in it to make money, so how much will you charge Drayton Manor for your expertese and products?

This is a truely unique opportunity to work closely with one of the UK’s best known companies and the prize will be pretty great too!

What-ya-call-it?

Ever thought to your self… “why is this so difficult?” or “wish there was something to do this for me” or “this could be done better” ? Well there are lots of situations like this, and the products they lead to are called ‘inventions’. Wouldn’t you want to be known for designing a product that solves an every day problem, making millions of lives better and easier? Or maybe you can design something that everybody would want to buy, but it hasn’t actually been thought of yet, the greatest product in the world that is trapped inside your head, fighting to get out!

This is called a ‘What-ya-call-it’ you don’t quite know what it is yet, but with a bit of thought and inspiration the perfect product is right there inside you waiting to escape!
Give it a go, a ‘What-ya-call-it’ something everybody will want, but hasn’t yet been thought of!

Fashion Frenzy

Fashion has always been an industry of rapid growth and constant change. Every season brings a new look, style or fashion which people of all ages try to emulate.
With so many brands and shops to choose from on the high street, plus countless others on the internet, finding that perfect outfit can sometimes be very difficult, and even more so if you are planning an outfit for a special occasion.

That is where this challenge comes in, we would like you to design a His and Hers’ outfit for a special occasion. The age group and occasion is your choice, but remember to make it contemporary and suitable for the age group. Maybe, if you are feeling adventurous, you could design a collection of items and develop your own brand identity!

Marketing Mealy

Silverstone Race Circuit is the home of UK motor sport and hosts a large variety of events throughout the year, F1, GP2, British Superbikes, track days to name a few. One of the Circuits principal events is the British Touring Car Championship. This coming year the championship will be supported by an air show.

All products and events need some sort of branding and marketing, and it is this field we would like you to concentrate on for this challenge.

We want you to come up with a new logo for the British touring Car and Air Show event that Silverstone can use for promotion; also we would like you to include your logo design on some promotional items, which are of course your choice.
Remember this is a business opportunity and you will be taking on the role of designers, selling your services and products to Silverstone Circuit for their own use, so there is a lot to consider.
